Federal programs
Federal programs — no territorial PNP
Unlike provinces and some territories, Nunavut does not run a nominee program that adds points
to Express Entry or issues territorial nominations for permanent residence. Most newcomers who plan to live in Nunavut rely
on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) programs: Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker,
Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades), family sponsorship, caregiver and other economic pilots when open, and
temporary work or study permits that may later feed into federal PR eligibility.
Eligibility depends on the federal stream: language tests, education
credentials, skilled work history, valid job offers (where applicable), medical and security checks, and proof of funds for
some categories. A job in Iqaluit does not replace those federal requirements.
How GetNorthPath helps: we map you to the strongest IRCC
pathway, validate employer letters and work history for Express Entry or CEC, prepare sponsorship or permit applications with
AI checks, and keep your story consistent from temporary status to PR—within our $299 CAD service with consultant oversight.
Important: there is no Nunavut “PNP shortcut.” If an employer needs staff urgently, work permits and
LMIA strategy still follow federal rules. Book a consultation before assuming a northern job equals automatic PR.

Without a territorial nominee, CRS scores, Canadian work experience, and family

CRS / ITA
Skilled workers abroad, in-Canada experience holders, and tradespeople who meet IRCC criteria and
compete in the Express Entry pool—no 600-point territorial boost from Nunavut.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor eligible family when relationship and income
rules are met—destination can include Nunavut after landing.
Meaningful public-sector and infrastructure roles, Inuit-led institutions, and a distinct territory—paired
with the reality that permanent residence flows through federal programs, not a Nunavut PNP.

How long do Nunavut-related applications take?
Work permits, Express Entry, and family sponsorship each have their own IRCC service standards. Use the bands
below for planning and verify with official sources.
GetNorthPath advantage: incomplete employer letters or unsigned forms cause refusals—we validate
before you click submit.
There is no territorial nominee—clients lose months planning around a program that does not exist here.
We anchor strategy in real IRCC streams.
2
NOC mismatch vs EE profile
Employer letters that do not match primary NOC duties tank CRS and CEC claims.
Consultants reconcile NOC, duties, and references.
3
Work permit gaps
Broken work continuity can disqualify Canadian experience classes.
We map renewals and Express Entry timing together.
4
Underestimating logistics
Fly-in communities mean tight timelines for medicals, biometrics, and travel.
We build realistic filing schedules.

Frequently asked questions
Nunavut immigration questions, answered.
No. Nunavut does not operate a territorial nominee program like the provinces or Yukon/NWT. Permanent
residence is pursued through federal IRCC programs (Express Entry, family class, etc.) or other national pathways when
applicable.
A northern job helps with work permits and may build Canadian experience for CEC, but you must still meet
all IRCC criteria—language, NOC skill level, admissibility, and any draw or sponsorship rules.
If you need a territorial nomination for CRS or employer-driven PR, those territories run nominee programs.
We compare options honestly if your occupation or family ties fit better elsewhere.
IRCC publishes service standards by program, not by territory. Logistics (travel, medicals, biometrics)
can feel harder in fly-in communities—plan early.
Yes. Many residents use FSW, FST, or CEC like anyone else in Canada—there is simply no extra 600 CRS points
from a Nunavut nomination.
We focus on IRCC pathways for Nunavut-bound clients—permits, Express Entry, sponsorship, and PR—plus
coordination when you also explore other regions.
