Overview

What Express Entry means for Republic of Congo applicants

Express Entry is the online system IRCC uses to manage three federal economic programs Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). FSW is almost always the relevant entry point for applicants without prior Canadian ties.

Language note: French is the Republic of Congo's official language. French-language category-based Express Entry draws are a direct strategy, not a workaround they've historically shown meaningfully lower CRS cutoffs than general draws.

There is no resident Canadian office in the Republic of Congo. Creating your profile, being ranked, and receiving an ITA all happen online, unaffected by this. What needs individual coordination is biometrics completed through the Embassy of Canada to the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Kinshasa, which holds this consular district.

FAQ

Express Entry from Republic of Congo questions answered

Do I need a job offer?
+
No. Federal Skilled Worker eligibility does not require a job offer, and since March 25, 2025 job offers no longer add CRS points. IRCC removed arranged-employment points to curb LMIA fraud.
How long does an ECA take?
+
A WES or ICAS assessment typically takes 6 to 8 weeks after the organization receives transcripts directly from the institution.
What CRS score do I need?
+
There's no fixed minimum you need a score at or above the cutoff in the draw you're competing in. French-language category draws have historically shown meaningfully lower cutoffs than general draws.
What language test should I take?
+
TEF or TCF (French) is often the strongest strategic choice, since it opens access to French-language category draws. IELTS or CELPIP (English) is also accepted.
Where do I complete biometrics if there's no resident Canadian office?
+
Biometrics are coordinated through the Embassy of Canada to the Democratic Republic of Congo, in Kinshasa, which holds the consular district for the Republic of Congo.
Does the lack of a resident embassy slow down my application?
+
No. Creating your Express Entry profile, being ranked, and receiving an ITA all happen online. Only biometrics need specific coordination given the cross-border routing to Kinshasa.
