Overview

What Express Entry means for Angolan applicants

Express Entry is the online system IRCC uses to manage three federal economic programs Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). For Angolan applicants without prior Canadian work experience, FSW is almost always the relevant entry point.

Language note: Portuguese is Angola's official language, not French so French-language category-based Express Entry draws, relevant to Francophone African countries, don't apply here. IELTS General or CELPIP is the correct test strategy.

The 67-point grid separate from your CRS score

FAQ

Express Entry from Angola questions answered

Do I need a job offer?
+
No. Federal Skilled Worker eligibility does not require a job offer, though holding one adds CRS points. Most Angolan FSW applicants qualify on education, English test scores, and work experience alone.
How long does an ECA take?
+
A WES or ICAS assessment typically takes 6 to 10 weeks, longer than for English-medium countries, since Portuguese transcripts must be translated before or alongside submission.
What CRS score do I need?
+
There's no fixed minimum you need a score at or above the cutoff in the draw you're competing in. Recent general draws have ranged roughly 480-545.
What language test should I take?
+
IELTS General Training or CELPIP are both accepted for Express Entry. Since Portuguese is Angola's official language, most applicants build English proficiency specifically for this process.
Does French help Angolan applicants at all?
+
Generally no French isn't widely used in Angola, so French-language category-based Express Entry draws don't apply to most Angolan applicants the way they do for Francophone African countries.
Can I apply directly from Angola?
+
Yes. The Federal Skilled Worker program is specifically designed for applicants applying from outside Canada, including Angola. You do not need any prior Canadian study or work experience.
