West Africa sends more applicants to Canada than any other African region, driven overwhelmingly by Nigeria and Ghana. The region splits cleanly along colonial-language lines: Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Gambia are Anglophone, while the remaining eleven countries are Francophone (with Mauritania also using Arabic).
