What is a study permit extension?
Still studying in Canada? You need to extend - not reapply from scratch.
A study permit extension is an application to continue your legal student status in Canada when your current study permit is about to expire. If you're changing programs, extending your degree timeline, or moving from one program to another, you need to extend your study permit from inside Canada using Form IMM 5709 E.
This is different from applying for a new study permit from outside Canada (IMM 1294). What it is
Implied status is a legal state where you can continue the conditions of your
previous permit (e.g., studying) while IRCC processes your renewal application - even if the permit
itself has expired on paper.
